Preparing Your Child for an IV

· tense up

·hide their arms

· cause narrow the blood veins

Octopus Support

Children will tense up and hide their arms before the IV setup. The stress can cause vasoconstriction, which is the narrowing of the blood veins resulting from contraction of the muscular wall of the veins.  It makes the IV insertion harder. This design can give children a better experience.

Research

  • Make veins more clear.

  • Need the best angle for inserting the needle

  • Distract Kids

Why ‘Ocutupus’ is necessary?

· Taking a small spongy ball out and grasping several times, which can make skin give some pressure to the vein in order to make veins more clear.

· The hand falls along with the curve, and the best angle for inserting the needle is formed.

· Different lengths of the “legs” present the most comfortable angle for hands.

All of these, not only can improve the chance of success, but also can reduce tension in the body.
